Congratulations to Team Canada for their Silver Medal win at Pan Ams. Canada’s team consisted of Ellie Black, Maegan Chant, Madison Copiak, Isabela Onyshko and Victoria Woo. On the first day of competition, Canada won Silver behind the Americans, and ahead of third place Brazil.
Ellie and Isabela both qualified for All Arounds, with Ellie winning Gold with 58.150. Isabella came in sixth. Ellie’s All Around Gold was the first time that an American had not won since 1983.
In vault finals, Ellie came in with a Bronze medal, while Maegan tied for fourth with Brazil’s Daniele Hypolito.
Canada’s entries in uneven bars were Madison and Isabela, who were 7th and 8th respectively.
Ellie shone on the final day of competition, winning Gold in both beam and floor. Ellie dominated on beam, with a score of 15.050, a full point over the Silver medallist, American Megan Skaggs. Victoria had a great showing with a Bronze medal finish. Ellie capped off the competition with a 14.40 on floor and her final Gold.
Ellie won the most medals of anyone at the Pan Am Games, with a total of 5 – 3 Golds, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.
Ellie is a great friend of Gemini Gymnastics. In 2012, she competed on the Canadian Olympic Team with Gemini’s Kristina Vaculik, which was coached by our own Elena Davydova. Ellie often visits Gemini when she is in town, where we are proud to welcome her. Congrats Ellie on these historic results!
